I'm seeing a couple of confusing typos.
"When I looked up the two-letter MP code stamped into the block, my motor's manual listed this as a '67 290hp 327 with AIR. I knew that couldn't be correct because that was a Z/28 engine-and at this point I didn't want to believe this was a Z/28. Where were the aluminum intake, Holley carb, and four-speed?" 327? Also this "The car was equipped in much the same condition as I purchased it 19 years later, but Mary was quick to point out that it was in fact a Z/28" 1967-1979 is 12 years. It's a good article but those two things definitely threw me off.

I agree. That's surprising for a Jeff Smith article. Probably some stuff edited out that might clarify things. And maybe find out how "Jim" came into the search and became a friend.
