not an attempt to hijack this thread in any way, I just love the maroon GTA, Firebirds, f bodies
This is a shot from March 1989 in Kingman, AZ, two GM chassis engineers (yes, they were "company" cars from the Proving Grounds - hence the AZ Manufacturer plates) and moi' on our way to a SCCA Pro Solo in Las Vegas. It looks like the GTA was loaded with race tires IIRC the maroon car was an LB9 manual and the IROC was a L98, both with N-10 dual cats and performance axles

Oh man, when I graduated college in '87 and was headed to USAF flight school I wanted one of these bad. 24K was too rich for my new lieutenant pay so I settled on a new 5.0 LX for half the money. I do remember looking at one of these in the Pontiac dealer's showroom and trying to make the numbers work. Beautiful car! GLWS.
