Build Date for the 67 Nova L79 was in June 67 ?...I would have thought that they would have been available and built only at the beginning of the 1967 production.

No...for some reason, they were built during the month of June 1967 sometime. I will find out the time line on these.
Found this...

It is also generally agreed that the six 1967 L79s were built in a 6 week period spanning May/June 1967

Kinda similar to the 67 Chevelle SS396's with the L78 option.....the only real ones built were built late in the year.

Back in the day I had a 68 L79 Nova.It was a black non SS car with 3:31 gears and a 4 speed.I wacked a number of BBC Chevelles with that car and it ran low 14s with just dumps and a sticky street tire.I really need to get my act together and scan some old pics so I can post them.

Why is this? Why so late in the year when the 1966 L79 Nova was such a success? And why the cast iron manifold? All other 1967 L79 engines came with the aluminum manifold.

My thoughts are that the Camaro was heading the way and all else was just not at the top of the list!

The L78 396/375 was a late year offering in BOTH the Chevelle and Camaro in 1967. This is very strange because L78's were available all through 1966, 1968, 1969, etc. but for some unknown reason, they just weren't available for the first half of the 1967 model year like these '67 L79 Novas. Heck, you can even throw in Full-size L72 427/425 cars in the same category. Lots of them made in 1966, none in 1967, and then released again in 1968 & 1969. I don't think it's ever been discussed here but Chevrolet's 1967 engine option list started off pretty boring compared to 1966. It could've been a corporate policy change, supplier shortage of some sort or whatever but at least they brought the fun stuff back in late-'67 and the following years.
