Rob: I just got my L72 Original Paint Corvette back together with the help of your camshaft. It runs like a bear and I'm still breaking in the motor and working through dialing in the carburetor. Thanks for all of your help, Ed ![]() [/ QUOTE ] SWEET! The '66 L72 combo is the nastiest of the bunch... ![]() |

Rob:
We wound up installing it six degrees retarded as you suggested. My original plan was to build the engine "bone stock" but, I decided to shelf the 7115 crank and original rods and went with really nice pieces from Eagle. I also upped the compression with Ross .030 over pistons to about 11.6:1 The rotating assembly was balanced and we did a little pocket porting on the heads and triple cut the valves. I'm stuck runing 110 Sunoco but she's a real wolf! Thanks again, Ed

I gotta agree about that '66 L-72 being nasty! I've always thought of them as one of the most over-powered, under-tired Musclecars of all time! Brutally fast! You line this '66 up against a '67 427-435 Tri-carbed 'Vette and my money would be on the '66 car.

I agree about the "skinny tires". I'm running F70x15 Coker redlines on a 15x6 steel wheel with the original hubcaps. I've got a set of old American D-spokes that I'll be mounting up this week. Now since it hasn't rained today (first in two weeks), I'm off to continue the break-in! Thanks, Ed

The original cams were ground 6 degrees advanced, as are the true blueprint copies...so retarding the cam 6 degrees basically puts it back to "straight up", and brings it inline with where the compression maps say it needs to be.
