Trying to locate previous owners of my old cars was one of the things that I liked best about the muscle car hobby. Unfortunately, as the years went on, reaching a relative of the now deceased previous owner was becoming the norm. I uncovered some crazy stories of murder and suicides that really had me nervous every time I made a call.

Thanks again guys.

Sit tight for a couple of days as I am hoping to have some more information about the Camaro which I think will be worth the wait.

The history hunt has been good to me so far.

I spoke to the original owner who ordered the Camaro Z/28 from Cagle Chevrolet. The gentlemen is 80 years old and has a wickedly sharp memory. He was able to answer all my questions without any hesitation and is now in the process of going through some boxes/files and trying to find me some more information.

I forwarded him a pic of the car he took when he first took delivery of it in 1969. See below.

Unfortunately the "born with" 302 and M21 are long gone but the car still retains its original BV rear end housing with 3:73. As odd as this sounds, this is a strange blessing for me. I have always wanted a 69 Z/28 that I could beat on since I was a punk, and as they became more valuable, that dream looked like it had disappeared. But not now, it may be back.

The car came with a fresh "stock" rebuilt non DZ 302 that will rev 7,000 easy, an additional 302 that needs rebuilding, a M20 and the 12 bolt rear end that were both rebuilt 1,000 miles ago.

So here is potentially the new set up......the rebuilt 302, the existing M20 or a much preferred Autogear M22 or M23 transmission (always wanted to have that M22 gear whine) and a set of GM 4:88 gears that I have been sitting on for 25 years.

There is a bucket full of things that are incorrect on the car which I will be addressing this winter. And I will leave it Hugger Orange as the paint is 42 years old and still looking decent.

It's just going to be a beater that I WILL drive.

Paul

Is that Ed Stern's X 1969 Z28 by any chance?

Looks the same, I recall it was the wrong color and not correct engine.

I entered my name as well as other family members to see if my/their old addresses came up. In all instances it came back with "no information is known".

The color change was done in 1988.

And the paint still looks great aside from some chips and the odd scratch which I have no problem with as I no longer have to be paranoid of driving it.
