Attached is a picture of a 1967 Z28 when it was new. Although the car looks black in the picture, it is actually Tahoe Turquoise. It was one of five '67 Z28s sold through Washburn Chevrolet in Santa Barbara, CA. I used to own the car in the early '80s and sold it to a friend who sat on it for the better part of two decades. Now it has been sold back to the original owner and he is doing a complete restoration on it. It's pretty neat when an original owner can get his old car back.

Well... not really.
The current owner told me that he bought this car many years ago with the impression that it was the same one in the pic you posted that Frank Sr. took. The car in your pic later became the first "WE HAUL". Unfortunately, it is believed that car flipped during a run in the early seventies at a track in Ohio killing the driver.
Joe Satmary, did however, install the engine in this car and raced it for a short period before he left us several years ago.
Seltzer however, is still with us and actively racing in Northwest Indiana a '65 Chevy II that should by now be in the 9s.

Thanks Chris! Haven't heard from you in a while.

This is for those that never saw the pic. It is missing from the first page. See attachment. Dad took the pic in July 1969. Note the ZL-1 lettering on the front fender.

Rick,
You didn't miss anything at the auction, corral or show and the swap was pitiful. Good thing it was only a couple miles from home and the weather nice.

Reliving my glory days, and came upon this forum. In late '68, I was living in Hammond, In., and building a 66 Chevelle/w 427 BB, and needed a set of headers.

I went to VanSenus auto parts as I had been there quite regularly for speed parts.

I met Fred VanSenus!

He was great to me, discounted many parts knowing I was young and poor. In this case, he said he had a friend who had lots of sets of headers that he tried for a short time, and would probably make me a good deal, plus, this friend could use extra bucks.

I called the guy, and he gave me directions to a back-alley garage in Hammond (I believe) so I proceeded post haste.

There I met Mr. Satmary, who was working on a brand new camaro frame. We exchanged handshakes, and he proceeded to show me about 12-15 sets of BB headers, and let me have my pick for $40.00

I put them in the trunk, and stayed a while. He explained he had just picked up this plain-Jane Camaro from Blaskovich(sp)Chevrolet. He had stripped it completely, and was returning the engine(6 cyl), trans, running gears, upolstery, frame sections, and everything except the body, deck lid, and doghouse.

As I remember, he was drilling plugs from a square channel frame that was made for this body. I asked why drill a new frame, and he said to lighten it!

I hung around a while longer, and seeing he was tiring of the questions, I started to leave. He said I could come back any time, and I did return a few times, but he was always busy working it seemed.

Shortly after, I moved back to Shelbyville and finished the Chevelle with his headers. I thought of him lots as I grew up.

A real racing legend and good guy.
