Thanks. I'll have to see if I can get crafty. Even my glass viewing window gets hammered after a while.

Are you using plastic protective shields, available from Harbor freight and Eastwood.

Unfortunately it was already too late when I found out about them. I have a spare glass panel. When I go to change it out I'll pick up some of those protective shields.

When we started on the building 27 months ago we were dedicating the front room to parts storage. Not long after we started reos we were considering configuration for additional car staorage. The east front room had unrestricted access to the street and the though of converting it into a single car storage, and still room for parts was hatched. It was not a priority two years ago but put on the too do list. This past March we agreed that May would be a good time to get this done.
The plan was to demo the old wall and build a new one with an opening for a car.
Here is what we started with:

Friday May 18th, construct a temporary support wall.

8: AM Saturday May 19,the man door gets opened for the first time in xx years.

The demo begins

Thats Mike J doing the demo, he has been assisting us on many occasions. He is good at demo. Picks stuff apart in small chunks.

By noon we had a cleared opening to start the new construction.

By 2:00 PM we had started the stick build, after 4 trips to Home Depot (less than a mile away) to get the right materials.

Like everything else on this building project we over build, level and plum.
If 2x6's are called for we used 2x8.
If 3 boards on the header are called for we use 4.
Header gets screwed, glued and power nailed ,with Lloyd emptying the chamber several times. The way he works that power nailer I swear he wants to be an artillery gunner.
The level on top of the header is picture perfect, given the age of the building this was a major accomplishment.

By 5:30 Saturday we were framed!!

Time for a meal, tidy up tools, go home and feed the dog.

Early in the evening we started to close in the wall. The priority was to have it secure overnight and resume outside work the next day.

So Here is where we left off on Saturday night, permanent and temprary sheeting was in place. left side pressure treated plywood on the bottom and regular on top. The right side sheeting was just to secure the opening.

Sunday Morning 9:AM start, Mike P, a shop regular committed to be there at 9, he showed at 11:00. Mike J. <his demo work done took the day off!

Game plan, get the wall ready for door install on Tuesday Morning.
To Do list
Tyvek
Insulation
vapor Barrier
Trim out inside for door install.
Stand back and be proud of a job well done.

I have a penchant for "waste not want not", so we used up the Tyvek from other work on the building and bought a small roll to finish up. Lloyd was not happy that we would not be numbers matching on the Tyvek.

Closed up for the day with the opening ready for the door guys.

Tuesday May 22, door guys showed up at 7:45 30 minutes ahead of schedule:

They said 90 minutes to do the install, they were done in one hour.

Last steps will be to trim out front of building and finish inside, should take about a week, time permitting. This will be followed by re landscaping the front to do away with the lawn.

Nice work guys. Yeah, that grass needs to be replaced with a concrete launch pad.
