Although I am a "Yenko.net" fan, I seldom post. However, after this past weekend I am so enthused that I want to extend my personal thoughts. It was a terrific show and I will always remember it.
Thanks to Al Fierke, Tom Clary and perhaps others that made it possible for five Fred Gibb 1968 COPO Novas to be in a group together. That was a real pleasure for the owners as well as the large crowd. This group was one-tenth of the original fifty cars.
Thank you Brian for bringing two of the cars from Pennsylvania to the show. There was Tommy Kiesmiesz's car with the beautiful Fathom Blue. (Tommy was so happy and excited.) The Thayers flew in from New Hampshire to be with their car which was also Fathom Blue. They were thrilled to be at the show and were delightful visitors.
Nancy and I felt very lucky to have our car next to Annie who was there with her late husband's Grecian Green Nova. Before I owned a car to exhibit Nancy and I went to Chicago on the train to see Dennis and his Nova and exhibit. Dennis knew Fred all his life and was a big promoter of Fred Gibb Chevrolet (his father worked there). Last weekend I often looked at the two cars and thought about Dennis and Fred. Many people have been wanting me to write a book and if I ever should, there will be several interesting pages about Dennis Hartweg. Thank you Ann for bringing your car all the way alone, as you wanted it there, too.
The "Matador Red" Nova was behind my car and was owned by John Oehler of the Chicago Area and had been restored by Wayne Bushey of York, Pa. In the fifty there were very few that color and Wayne was very proud of it. To deliver the car to Chicago he drove first to La Harpe, Illinois to have a photo shoot at the old Fred Gibb Dealership where the car had first appeared so many years ago. The car has become a top winner.
I feel that my Fathom Blue Nova was happy to be in the group as I know that I was. I was thrilled by the enthusiasm of the crowd and the cars. One man, areal Nova fan, stopped by my table and he said that he never expected he would ever see such a sight as all five cars together. Before he left to go home he came back with his friends and said that he wanted to see them once again as he might never see that again.
I could go on and on about these Showcase Cars as every one of them has a story, just as all the other outstanding cars at the show.
Thank you again Tom Clary, Brian and crew, Tommy, the Thayers, Ann,Wayne, John and all the people that enjoyed the display.
I enjoyed having Al Fierke come by two mornings to visit., I also had about a fifteen minute visit with one of the new owners, Bob A.. I think he is very ambitious and is looking forward to even making something very good, even better.
It was a weekend that I will always remember! Helen.
