You should always compare colors in daylight. The pigments and the chemicals in the paint have different characteristics in reflextion and will return differently depending on the light. In daylight all those differences are evened out and only daylight will give you a true view of the colors.

Eric...
I ordered a new '68 SS396 Chevelle in Teal Blue metallic (forget the paint code now) but it looked a lot like the colour on the left of your picture.
It appeared in low light and at night to be a very dark grey to almost a black and in bright light like a subdued dark blue - I really loved the colour because it went well with the blacked out accent areas on a SS car, especially after I put a set of dark centre Torque Thrusts on the car - plus it made the minimal chrome and aluminum trim really stand out as well.
It always seemed to have a different look depending on the available light and maybe that was why I liked it so much...

The weather yesterday was miserable, but the forecast for tomorrow is calling for mostly sunny skies.

*Hopefully* I'll be able to get a better look at things then.

Well, the sun managed to make an appearance for a little while yesterday. Rachel was kind enough to snap the following pics for me while I was busy in the shop building carbs.

It is quite startling how much these colors vary depending on what angle the light is hitting them, esp. the Deepwater.

Deepwater is on the drivers side of the deck lid, Nightwatch on the passenger side.

Bodyguy is currently checking in on two other color samples for me before I make any final decisions. Considering the amount of time and $$$ I have invested to this point, I want to make <span style="font-style: italic">damn sure</span> whatever color I decide on is one I can live with for the long run.

I definitely do not want to have to paint this thing again.

*EDIT*

Just got off the horn with Bodyguy--he's already got the two other colors sprayed on some other test panels and will have them cleared tomorrow. I'll post the pics up as soon as I can.

I like the Deepwater. I think the other is too &quot;bright&quot; blue.
JMHO good luck!!

Eric - the link below lets you search Chevelles by year for colours, body styles, or options and if you scroll down to the 'Chevelle Photo Gallery' you can view cars in virtually any colour available for that year to get an idea...

http://www.chevellestuff.net/index.htm

The blue I had on my '68 SS was Teal Metallic code LL and is shown in the 1968 gallery on at least one car there. I think it looks like the second blue you had sprayed. The first blue is also shown on a car in the 1967 gallery - check it out...

Agreed. The Nightwatch is nice, but not what I'm after, but the Deepwater is still a strong possibility.

Randy;

I bought Dale's CD a few years ago, and it's a great reference, but the Deepwater pic just didn't show enough color detail.

The weather forecast for tomorrow is calling for rain yet again, so who knows when I'll be able to review the next paint samples...

That black w/vinyl SS (the first one in the Chevelle link &amp; '67 photo gallery) is an amazing looking car!
I've had a couple of black cars and they always looked the best - if they can be maintained properly but usually means a lot of work..
For me at least, that '67 pictured first has the perfect stance and look for that year - but the darker the paint the better the body work and prep better be, considering those long quarters!

Just wait for the day when you painter calls and tells you to come look at the car in it's fresh paint. You will experience all those emotions at one time second guessing yourself but ultimately being thrilled with the outcome.
