Did a quickie this afternoon...
Project, you smut heads....
I bought a spare tire carrier that goes in a stake pocket on a truck/trailer, but wasn't impressed that only the angled part sits on the pocket rail and wobbles all over. I grabbed a sheet of 5/16 plate I have and cut out a platform I will weld on to sit flush on the pocket and bed for more support. I used my plasma, so had to make a cut to square the end of the plate and went from there. I drilled 1/4" holes in the corners to get the plasma started without needing to cut thru the metal and spraying molten metal around first. Next work will be to sand blast it and the bottom half of the mount, weld it on and paint.
