This vehicle retains its original VIN tag and Trim tag. The first generation Pontiac GTO was produced from 1964 through 1967. The 1964 Pontiac GTO is widely considered to be the first muscle car, as it was the first to combine a large V8 engine with a midsize or smaller body which was marketed as a performance vehicle. In 1964, a total of 32,405 GTO hardtop and convertibles models were produced of which only 8,245 were equipped with the Tri-Power option. As the PHS (Pontiac Historic Services) paperwork documents this example is an authentic 1964 Pontiac GTO (Gran Turismo Omologato) Hardtop 389 Tri-Power with 4-speed. As the original Shipping Order and Trim tag indicate this example was built in Kansas City, Missouri on April 23rd, 1964. It was ordered with a Marimba Red exterior and Parchment interior. The car was retailed by Galen Boyer Motors located in Independence, Missouri. The car sat in a building in Cincinnati, Ohio for 40 years before it was purchase by Kevin Landis of Ohio Muscle Car located in London, Ohio. Kevin specializes in the Pontiac GTO and is well-known for high quality correct restorations. This example was the product of a meticulous rotisserie restoration with many NOS (New Old Stock) parts. Since completion in 2022 it's only been driven 11 test miles as it was trailered to shows. MS CLASSIC CARS purchased it in July of 2024 and September of 2024 is the first time it's been listed for sale. The exterior of this beautiful specimen is spectacular to say the least. The factory design is timeless and iconic. During the restoration process the body was stripped to bare metal. Any sheet metal that needed attention was replaced and not repaired. The body is very straight with excellent gap lines throughout. The doors open and close very nicely. The car was refinished in its factory original color of Marimba Red which is desirable among collectors. The paint work is exceptional throughout and was recently detailed to a high gloss finish. The front windshield, vent glass, door glass, quarter glass and rear windshield was replaced new date code stamped glass from Auto City Glass. Everything on the exterior was restored or replaced including the glass stainless trim, wiper arms, antenna, driver's side mirror, headlight bezels, front bumper, nickel plated front grill, fender trim, door handles, rocker moldings, NOS tail lights, rare back up light delete rear bumper and emblems. The car sit's proudly on reproduction Hurst 14” 5-spoke polished wheels with US Royal Safety 800 7.50x14 redline tires. Although the Hurst wheels weren't a factory installed option, they're era correct for the timeframe and were a popular choice. The superb attention to detail carries into the spacious and inviting interior. It was refinished in its factory original color of Parchment with black accents. This color complements the exterior color perfectly. The Parchment color dresses the headliner, dash, door panels and seating surfaces. The black color dresses the dash pad, seat belts, lower carpeting on door panels and floors. Everything in the interior was restored or replaced such as the rear view mirror, rare wood sport steering wheel, gauge bezel, gauges including tachometer, radio, NOS speaker, dash emblem, bucket seat trim, door handles, window cranks, Hurst shifter with white shift knob, pedals, rear arm rests and carpeted floor mats. The painted trunk compartment is highly detailed throughout. It's equipped with a correct style trunk mat, spare tire, jack and tools. The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. The satin black firewall has the correct amount of overspray which was also sprayed over a partial section of the Trim tag. The firewall also has the factory assembly stamp in the corner. The inner fenders and radiator support were also refinished in correct satin black color. The car is powered by a date code correct 389 V8. The engine casting number is #9773155 which is a 389 V8 from 1964. The casting date is #C254 which is March 25th, 1964 and is roughly a month before the car was built. This engine was completely rebuilt to factory specifications with exception of an upgraded Ram Air IV cam and refinished in the correct shade of blue. The engine is fed through the Tri-Power setup with 3x2 barrel Rochester carburetors that have AC Delco filters and chrome covers. Other features include chrome valve covers, AC Delco distributor, AC Delco fuel filter, AC Delco styled battery, GM stamped hoses and factory assembly paint marks throughout. The engine breathes through the correct manifolds and a new Gardner dual exhaust system. Gardner Exhaust is known for correct and high-quality reproduction exhaust systems. The engine is coupled to a date code correct M20 4-speed manual transmission. The power is transferred to the correct Safe-T-Track rear axle with 3.23 gears. The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. This undercarriage should be displayed with lights and mirrors at car shows. The floors were refinished in the in the correct satin black color. The frame was also refinished in the correct satin black color. Everything underneath was restored or replaced such as the fuel system with new polished tank, steering system, suspension components and braking system which includes four aluminum drum brakes. Upon completion various parts in the engine compartment and undercarriage were brushed with factory assembly marks of different colors. This vehicle is accompanied with various PHS paperwork, owner's manual, miscellaneous receipts, copy of the GTOAA Nationals Concours Gold Award from 2022 and 1964 GTO license plate. |
