Inside of the trunk is done, at least until we start drilling holes.

The factory spare tire well isn't quite deep enough to hide a full-size battery in, so Cale made a hinged door so it can be used for extra storage space, and the battery will go in a separate box on the far right side.

Trunks were painted body color on these, and the floor gets covered with a black rubber mat. I had intended to do spackle until I looked in the trunk of my yellow '55 realized how "wrong" that would be. Even debated doing tinted body-color spray-in bed-liner... in the end, doing it "right" was also the easy way.

went right over my head... didn't even catch the spackle/spatter thing. Too many paint fumes lately, I guess.

Pretty simple piece to make. 16ga flat steel, bead-rolled the edges and a little shrinking in the corners to get it to sit flat where it curves upward in front. Welded on a couple hinges, and made a finger-pull in the corner that is welded on also.

We'll use a couple magnets to keep it closed and avoid rattling. No latch.

Here's a picture of it just set in place. It will sit a little more level once we add a weatherstrip and the magnets.
