Default 1965 Tempest Custom

I was inspired to do this thread after seeing a few Chevrolet 6 cylinder cars posted recently.

It’s not a Super Car or Muscle Car, but these low budget family cars seem to be much tougher to find in excellent Unrestored Survivor condition.
This two tone ‘65 Tempest Custom 2 door Sport Coupe had 28K Original miles when it was on auction in late 2020.

Montero Red lower body with Cameo Ivory upper body. I love two tone 60’s cars.
Engine is a 215 Std. with the optional 2 speed automatic (55196 built).
Power Steering.
Power Brakes.
Tinted windshield.
Decor Group.
Mirror Group.
Back up lamps.
AM Radio.
2 Speed Wipers
Rear Window Defogger.
Deluxe seat Belts.
Deluxe Wheel Disc.

This two tone Red interior is really cool.

What do I like the most about this Tempest? The rear window defoger. I had one on my 69 Catalina, and it was the best, most overlooked, option every up north car needed.

In the mid 60’s Pontiac cars had great looking interiors. My brother had a dark blue 65 GTO with a white bucket seat n console 4 speed. Nice car.

Default Fan Guard

I’m not sure of the reason, but every ‘65 Tempest Series car that is built with a 6 cylinder engine did not come with a Fan Guard.

All V8 engines (326, 389) have the Guard.

All the ‘65 core/radiator supports have 4 square holes to accommodate 4 cage nuts to secure the Fan Guard as shown on 2 GTO’s.
The supports on the 6 cylinder Tempest have never had the cage nuts installed.

Maybe something to do with the design of the 6 cylinder radiator upper tank. Looks like it would have required it's own style fan guard with the cap opening more toward the center.

Oh sure, Pontiac decided to spare the expense to make a 3rd Fan Guard with a radiator cap hole towards the center. What the heck, it’s only fingers.

When you see the production numbers of the 215 six cylinder, it makes you wonder, as there were MANY.

Duh, I know, the six cylinder only has 4 small blades on the fan. 🙄

Especially with those solid steel non-clutching 4 blade fans, your chances are far greater losing a finger or two with those.
