Default '61 Chrysler 300G, Factory 4-Speed

Super rare original 4-speed car, one of the coolest early Mopars out there.

Unless the car was changed to a 4 speed, the only manual trans offered in 1961 was a 3 speed, option code 281. In 1960 Chrysler used the French 4 speed by Pont A Mousson in the 9 special built 300F.
The later chrysler 4 speed the new process 833 did not come out until 1964.

Love the 4 bucket seats, but often wondered why the manual shifter was not incorporated into the center console, looks like an afterthought.

Before Hurst started building shifters the mechanisms were very flimsy. Only a straight handle would work, as the trans was all side mounted levers, this was the only way to install a shifter. The French 4 speed was a top mounted shifter and was able to be incorporated with the console.

I had a 61 300G convertible I sold late winter. Had horrible restoration shop situation and feel lucky how it turned out. Those cars are getting tough to find parts for. A guy was making about anything you could want including beautiful seat covers. He had a lot of health problems and sold his business. I am not sure what people are doing for parts now.
