1993 Sela Cars Ferrari F40 CoinOperated Children's Ride

Selling with NO RESERVE on Bring a Trailer. View the auction here.

This rare and exciting 1993 Sela Group Ferrari F40 Coin-Operated Children's Ride is the ultimate collector's piece for the true automotive enthusiast. The Romagna-based Sela Group is a world leader in the production of baby cars and bumper boats that can be seen operating in amusement parks, tourist facilities and family entertainment centers around the world. Sela Cars was founded on January 18th, 1972 by two young cousins, Gerardo and Donato De Carlo. With the tenacity and entrepreneurial spirit, their small workshop soon became a hotbed of new ideas. The cars were designed by Gerardo and Donato with the aim of giving kids a trill. The cousins personally supervised the design, manufacturing and marketing of the cars throughout Italy, constantly striving for perfection and innovation in both design and production. The company continued to grow year after year and the company is strong today. This example was discovered and restored by Jeff Russell of Big Boys Toys in Oklahoma. The restoration was completed and immediately purchased by MS CLASSIC CARS in March of 2024. It's been on display for the last couple of months. May of 2024 is the first time it's ever been listed for sale and it's selling with NO RESERVE!

For manufacturing the car in fact takes shape as a 3D model, defining its design and technical feature. This is the stage when the team's creativity meets the customer's needs, with the possibility of designing completely customized cars. The model's fiberglass body is then constructed. This is done using a series of resins that make it light, waterproof and incredibly sturdy. The car is then painted and decorated based on customer's requirements. The final step is a sort of marriage between the bodywork, the mechanical and electrical parts.

This piece is in show quality condition and in excellent working order. The fiberglass body was stripped and prepped to be straight. During this process some modifications were made to the original mold. The rear panel originally had two tail lights and housed the speaker box. The tail lights were moved up and two additional tail lights were added. The speaker box area was filled in and a set of three exhaust tips were added at the bottom. The original dash had a steal panel with coin and key slot that would fold down to access coin box. That area was filled in and a new mechanism was added on the driver's side panel. The entire body was painted in Ferrari Red (code-S14) which keeps it authentic to the model. The high quality paint was recently detailed to a vibrant finish. The red is complemented with black accents on the hood vents, headlight covers, front bumper areas, side vents, top vents by rear spoiler, rear bumper areas and body molding. The front windshield was painted silver and trimmed in black. LED lights were added to the front fenders. The hood and front fenders were decorated with new Ferrari decals. The underside raw fiberglass was prepped and painted black. The wheels were painted silver and all the tires were painted black. The front tires read Sela Cars Forli-Italy 235x90 and the rear tires read 265x100. The cabin was painted black throughout including the dash and steering wheel. The dash was decorated with decals simulating gauges. The contoured seat was painted red which matches the exterior. A new sound box was installed that plays actual Ferrari F40 racing sound. All the lights are in working order.

The fiberglass side step base was stripped and prepped to be straight. It was painted black and recently detailed to a glossy finish. The base has new step pad plates and hardware. The base was decorated with Ferrari letters that were painted the colors of the Italian flag. It was also decorated with a Big Boy Toys Limited decal. Operating LED lights were added underneath the base for the ultimate experience. The metal framed base sits on wheels to make it easier to move. A new display carpeted mat is included for display purposes.

It still retains most of its original mechanical parts that were made in Italy. Some examples include the Belelli E. Trasformatore part #071890237 and Motori Bonora Cento (Ferrara) Italy model 8 ½ horsepower motor part #47781.
The dimensions of this piece complete are 48” L, 27” W and 36” H.

This 31 year old piece of automobilia has been completely restored to high standards. Coin-operated Children's Rides are becoming highly collectable and make great conversation pieces. This is a great opportunity selling with NO RESERVE!
