Known as, “Fifty Shades of Grey” - This stunning 1964 Volkswagen Beetle is the ultimate custom street machine with its striking appearance and modern equipment. It’s powered by a CB Performance 2332cc/200HP engine built by well-respected Pat Downs. As the VIN number indicates this was a later production 1964 Beetle Sedan. The 1964 model was the last year for the flat windshield, vertical vent wing post, small quarter windows, 33mm running board molding and knob style heater control. This example was found in Fillmore, CA and purchased from the original owner by Joe Keller who lives in Moreno Valley, CA. Joe is a CEO of Phenom America which is a well-known youth basketball camp. Joe bought his first VW and he knew straightway that this was the beginning of a passionate love affair. His vision with this car was to build the ultimate Beetle and that’s exactly what he did. After completion in 2018, Joe drove the car occasionally and took it some car shows. It was featured in Airmighty magazine-Issue 37 in 2019 which is included. Joe decided to sell the car and it was purchased by Volkswagen enthusiast Scott Bourget who lives in Fall River, MA. Scott is a part-time car builder and mechanic. Although Scott loved the car, he wanted to take it to another level and that’s exactly what he did. He not only updated the car cosmetically but also mechanically. Since completion in 2022, Scott added a total of 1400 miles enjoying the car with his wife Danielle. They attended the annual Newport Motor Car Festival- Father’s Day Car Show at The Portsmouth Abbey in Portsmouth RI on Sunday June 18th, 2023 with the 64’ Beetle. It was admired by many including Marc Schiliro – the owner of MS CLSSSIC CARS. Marc loved the car and struck a deal to purchase it. Over the last 59 years this Beetle has only had three owners! This is the first time it’s been listed for sale.

The exterior of this 64’ Beetle was tastefully designed and looks awesome. It underwent a complete body-off restoration with great attention to detail. For most of the bodywork, it went to Mike at Vintage Body Werks located in Pomona, CA. He used high-quality Wolfsburg West floor pans which were powder-coated after all the welding had been done. Mike spent many hours making the body straight with nice panel fitment. It was painted in the beautiful color of Volkswagen Anthracite Grey. The paint is in show quality condition and was recently detailed to a sparkling shine. All of the glass and glass trim was replaced new. The rear vented windows have custom sliders with VW logo. Some of the new exterior pieces include the wipers, hood molding and handle, headlight bezels, parking lights, body side moldings, door handles, running board moldings and engine deck lid handle. Some of the custom appointments include the driver’s side mounted antenna, dual swan neck mirrors, headlight covers, door handle inserts and engine deck lid standoff bracket. A set of 1950 front and rear bumpers were added that were smoothed, slotted, tucked and painted body color. This Beetle rolls on custom Porsche Fuchs chrome and black wheels that are 17x4 on the front and 17x7 on the rear. The Porsche logo on the center cap makes a statement. The wheels are wrapped with new Accelera 165-40-17 tires on the front and Yokohama S. Drive 215-40-17 on the rear.

The interior of this 64’ Beetle was also tastefully designed and looks very sophisticated. It’s the perfect combination of elegant and sporty. The interior dash and door panels were painted Anthracite Gray. The door panel inserts, rear panel inserts, front bucket seats and rear seat were upholstered in German Gray leather. The interior trim such as the rear view mirror, gauge bezels, glove box door handle, window rollers, door handles and knobs were replaced new.
