The "GTO" decals on the quarter panels blew off in the car wash. The car was painted black on the decklid and up around the rear window. Photoshop rendering here, for discussion purposes:

My dad bought this '64 GTO in 1976 for $750 while we were living in Minot ND. Was originally a CA car as it had a 1972 CA inspection sticker on the windshield and no rust. When he bought it.. it had '72 Malibu wheel covers.. blackwall tires and a black top. Car was loaded with options... A/C.. power windows.. etc.. Pic was taken in 1978 while we were living in Kennewick WA. He sold it a couple months after pic was taken. It was sold to someone in the Seattle area.

Pre-GTO, but Pontiac assembly. This is the first pic I've seen showing steering wheel crating on the line.

Looks like a hand held alignment rod, never seen that before in any other assembly line photos. Love the upside-down C in Pontiac.

Correct - it's a "drift pin".
Now that you've noticed it you'll see it in other vintage photos too. K

The 1966 GTO was the only year both Manual and Automatic transmissions came with the resonators.
Cordova top and Rally I wheels.
