Survivor
ok so I bought a unrestored survivor if I pull the engine to replace the timing chain is it still considered a true survivor the nylon timing components scare the hell out off me

Replacing normal wear items is completely acceptable but resist the temptation to "fluff" the engine compartment while you're doing it. What kind of car did you get? Everyone will want to see pics too!

Yes, those OEM camshaft gear nylon teeth are scary.
As stated above, don’t disturb what’s left of any factory paint on that cover when you do the R/R on the chain unit. What model, year and mileage is on this Survivor car you have? Last edited by 60sStuff; 07-05-2021 at 08:14 PM. |

its a 68 z 57000 miles I will post pictures of the gear when I get it out, was not going to not pull the engine but I think that is the best way to do it

You can do a chain/gear change in the vehicle but getting the front cover back on with the pan installed is a MAJOR PITA and the front pan seal/gasket will likely leak. Pulling the pan along with the cover is the only way to get everything clean and leak free.
