If I wasn't 2000 miles away I'd probably be looking to get this 1962 Galaxie 500XL 406cid. Everything I see in the pictures looks promising. That air cleaner appears to be an original Ford chrome dress up kit, along with the valve covers. B code 385hp single 4bbl car, top of the line XL trim. Nice color combination. I know a lot of you guys are based around PA and could be interested in taking a peek. |

Very nice lines on that car. Love the color combo too!
PS - hey, I think the "Caution Fingers" orange sticker is correct for this car!

Ha! It's a mile from my house, but I've never been there!

Nice day, so I drove over to the auction. Car bid to $22,500.00 - N/S. Very nice, original car with one re-paint. Appeared to have had some rust issues fixed on quarters over both rear wheelwells at some point. Frame is very nice. Original engine (hyd lifter single 4 bbl) in tact. Auctioneer is "part owner", so car is still for sale. Probably takes 25-30k to buy it.
Didn't want to come home without contributing to the auction - picked up this old Goodyear window sign.

Nice, THANK YOU for the update-I was wondering
If its an original 406 block, it should be solid lifters, there's no provisions in the block for hydraulics. These Fords suffer a lot from "single carb depreciation"- R code 2x4bbl 425hp 427's easily bring many thousands more than Q code 1x4bbl 410hp 427's, and in the 406 world (which is a definite step below 427's since you have to explain to most people what this '62.5-'63.5 engine even is) G-code 405hp 3x2bbl cars easily out pull B code 385hp 1x4bbl cars. I know a similar thing happens in 409 circles, but I'm not sure its as pronounced.

Looks like it has the '63-'64 style 406-427 full wheelcovers that Ford made up from '56 Mercury items.
