Geez Tom, I remember have a conversation with you back at the Camaro Nationals at Pigeon Forge. When I told you I was considering building a Yenko Clone, you said, "I've been thinking about building a clone, myself." When asked why, you said something like, "I got into this hobby because I like to drive them, but they're too valuable to cruise in regularly. If someone says it isn't real, I'll just say yeah, my real one is at home in the garage."

I guess attitudes change. Maybe if I had a real one, I'd feel the way you do....but I don't think so.

You are right, when I first became involved with this hobby, I did not have a problem with clones. But, as you say, I have had an attitude change. The reason. I thought magazines, promoters and musclecar enthusiasts would know the difference between real and fake. I was wrong.

Anytime a clone is pictured in a magazine, shown on a TV show or displayed at a car show, they are stealing from a real car and its owner. An owner who was willing to step up to the plate and purchase the real thing. This owner should not have to compete against someone who choose to go the cheaper route. I hear all of the time, I could not afford a real one, so I built a clone. Well, that is what makes the real ones so special and desirable. Their rarity and the price tag that goes with them. There are a lot of ways to enhance the looks/appeal of non-supercars without cloning. Pro-touring or adding vintage/era speed equipment are only a couple of ideas.

And by the way, as I was doing after the show in Pigeon Forge, I do drive my real supercar. Hopefully at SCR6 I will be there with 2. No need for a clone.

Tom,
I agree that any mag that treats a clone as a real Yenko is doing a disservice to the owners of real cars.
Anyone who knows anything about these cars can tell a real one from a clone. Are you really saying you are concerned about the casual observer? I think not. As I inferred from your post, it's about money.

As I analogized once before, the furniture store is full of 17th century style furniture. Buying a new dining room suite does not mean you are trying to pretend it is something it is not. It's just furniture!!! And the people who buy them are not fakers.

Next time I see you, I'll buy you a Bohemian Style beer

Way to go Charley! I didn't understand all of the broom bashing. Looks like a nice ornament to me.

Charley, that is a nice gesture to put the Berger Broom controversy to rest! But we're still waiting to see that chicken fly out of your butt like you said; and then you REALLY would need the NOS Berger toilet paper too !
