On lots of med but feel much better. This was much easier than when they removed the Cholesteatoma that left me deaf and replaced hearing with a loud ringing. They won't turn it on for a month and then there is a lot of learning. Was told in one of the support Zoom chats that hearing are like am radio and Cochlear implants are like Sirius.

Oh, NO, you aren't going to have to listen to the adds too, are you ??
It will be very interesting talking with you in November. It will be great to hear your first hand experience. I have considered this for some time, but I don't see where Medicare indicates they will cover the cost. Maybe in the future ?

Medicare covers it. Dizzy right now and when I woke up the ringing in my ear sounded like a freight train. Yuck.

Yes, to an extent, they did lower the standards a few years ago and I may qualify now. I have a near complete high frequency loss and have had severe ringing my whole life as a result of pneumonia when I was an infant. Being declared 4-F by the military at the height of Vietnam and unfit to draft should be a good indication of how severe the loss is. I'm going to check with Mayo in Rochester for an appointment to be tested for acceptance.
You've probably been told the ringing is your brain trying to figure out why it doesn't get any audible input from your left ear and makes up shit to fill in... and yes, night is the worst, as the right ear isn't hearing much, if anything, and the brain only tries harder.
Consider a sound machine for sleeping. 2 years ago, I had a sound machine in my room at the Hyatt during MCACN. I love the sound of a babbling brook and set it to that and I slept better for 3 nights than I had in many years or since, as my wife is a SUPER light sleeper and the machine would keep her awake all night and drive her nuts...... more than I do....
