I have often thought maybe there was a relationship between the special calibrated gauge package needed in these cars and the tag. Export cars got pulled for metric speedometer, etc and these cars would get pulled possibly same point in assembly to get the 140 speedometer, etc. and hence, they got the export tag. maybe someone remembers how the assembly line process worked for this to happen or not.

So I bought this car and I am trying to find out if it as a real Z or not...is there anything definitive on a 68 that would prove beyond a doubt ...or disprove beyond a doubt that this car is a Z...? I'm convinced it is not a big block car as the big block heater box obviously has been converted to a big block usage.

At some point I will be selling the car...and most likely the rear housing also as the date does not work for my car...I'd like to try and figure out what the car is first in order to determine an accurate value.

It does have the high redline tach and the disc brakes..although, no power booster. Were manual discs even available in 68? I will try and post some better pics of the car soon...I am traveling this week, but will be back in the US next weekend...and will post pics then.

any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Max

I'd like to thank the seller on a relatively easy transaction also.....and for giving an honest description and keeping to his word. Thanks, Max

I was wondering what had gone on with the car, Congrats on the purchase, get a date code off the back of the tach see if it matches the car.

So I got to look at the car a bit today....I pulled the tach as suggested...it seems correct for the car....

Tha car was original Madiera Maroon with black interior...Could it have had white stripes...the cowl area where the hidden vin is white under all the newer paint...and it seems I see the remains of white paint in the trunk jamd under the newer paint...

the tire sticker in the glove box was not attached with scotch tape...it seems that somone put tape on the sticker kind of like lamination..but the tape does not extend beyond the sticker itself...?????

Does this sticker look original?? are the repros exactly the same??
