Jon, Al and Drew provided the dealer name and address based on the shipping record zone and dealer code.

Steve, I guess I'm not following what you're saying. Who did they supply it to?

When I received my NCRS shipping record it listed a zone and dealer code but no dealer name or address. I contacted Al G. and Drew P. and they both provided me with the dealer name and address. I contacted Al through his website.

Hi all,
I just got the shipping data report for my 71 Z28. It gave me the production date of 05/05/1971 and the Zone code of 18 which I know is Des Moines, IA. The report also gave me the dealer code of 491, but stated: "Unfortunately the GM listing does not have the name for this Dealer." Does anyone know the name of this dealer or know where I might be able to get this info? I appreciate any help you can offer. I did post this info in another section on this website, but then I saw these posts that pertain more to my info quest. Thanks. |

Just a little help. The Dealer codes were distributed alphabetically excet in some cases whjere a delaer took over another dealer's location and inherited the dealer code. Dealer 490 shows as Lightsinn Motors and the next showing On the NCRS search base is 496 Kudick Chevrolet. Therefore, your dealer should fall alphabetically between the 2. Next step, call the Des Moines public library reference dep't and ask them to look for a Chevrolet dealer who's name begins with "Li" through "Ku" in Des Moines, can't bee too many. Sometimes, if you get a cooperative research person they will go out of their way to help.
This will not be 100% but pretty close. Also ask them to use the business directories for 1971, dealers moved around and sold out here and there so you know yours was there in 71. Paul

Update:
I contacted the library in Des Moines and this is the e-mail I received back: Hi Paul, The only Chevrolet dealers I find in the Des Moines phonebook and city directory in 1971 are: Bob Brown Chevrolet 4224 Merle Hay Road Crescent Chevrolet 555 17th Street Howlett Chevrolet 623 East Grand Avenue There has been a Chevrolet dealer in Davenport since the 1950s called Lujack Chevrolet, if that's any help. Burke Des Moines Public Library Now I would have bet anything Lujack was the answer but speaking to Lujack, they have always been in Davenport and their reported zone and code are: 11 387 and 47 388 although their name fit the bill perfectly. I guess the searc goes on. Aslo checked all of the above dealers and they each are listed in the NCRS with codes that did not match. Paul

I ran my Camaro through NCRS and they reported...
<span style="font-weight: bold">Production Date: 2/4/1969 Dealer Zone: #16 Dealer Code: #708 Zone # 16 is located in NC or SC. Unfortunately the GM documents do not list the dealer name or location for this dealer. </span> The POP says..... 16-535-06 North State Chevrolet Co. Greensboro, NC Could it have been because of a dealer trade? Does anyone have info on Zone 16, Dealer code 708? Thanks, Jim |

Jim,
Yes looks like a Dealer Trade, Your POP shows zone 16 dealer 535 which is North State Chevrolet, your most likely selling dealer. Unfortunately, NCRS and Chevy Muscle Docs falls short on identifying Dealers at times but you always have us to help: . Dealer 16 Zone 708 is Smith Chevrolet 508 W. Franklin Ave, Gastonia, NC. I also clipped 2 ads for you that display a 69 Camaro, figured you'd enjoy. See below: Paul Winvoices ![]() ![]()
