Was there an earlier version of this Ram Rod shifter without shift stops? Thank you, Tom.

That Fenton is a pretty cool shifter. I loved the attention my vertigate used to get at cars shows. What's with the two shifters? This one looks like it would fit a console easier. Nice!

What years are the ones with the chrome reverse handle? I don't know why, but I thought they were later ones

Here are some pictures of the September Hot Rod magazine. It does have the flat reverse handle that mr.4speed mentions.
It states "The most recent new offering from Hurst Performance isn't exactly new to them. The in-line-pattern Ram Rod shifter for drag racers hit the dealers' stands in June of this year, but the first prototype was fashioned by George Hurst in 1959. That '59 model lay dormant for nearly a dozen years until the gang in Warminster Pa, decided to give the idea over for that relatively small segment of the shifter market who operate their four-speeds only over a sanctioned drag-strip." ![]()

It talks about "No gates to pass or press across" which I'm thinking they are comparing it to the V-Gate.
