I was sitting in back of a quad of guys that were trying to bid on the cars and the bidder assistant basically ignored all of them? My brother and I could not believe it and a bunch of people in the area were shouting on the bidder's behalf.
Congrats Andy - steal of the auction!

Well this proves my opinion that most BJ buyers don't want OE, they want shiny. These two cars weren't paint-by-numbers production vehicles, difficult for most inspectors to validate as original and correct. Brett's collection also did not do a good job of telling the story of the cars where the cars were displayed. The comments I overheard were picking the cars apart for not having the right options or incorrect details under the hood. Mopars in general have been the red-headed stepchild at BJ. Selling these two as a pair was a gaurantee they they would go "buy one get one". Have you ever seen a BOGO auction lot bring more than if each sold on thier own? This was a case of poor prep, wrong place, and the wrong auction strategy. All a benefit to the buyer.

I find it hard to believe that Mopars could be considered the red-headed stepchildren of B-J. Hemis, Six Packs, and Forward Look cars constantly have been at the top of the food chain. Compared to other top-tier cars like Chevys and Mustang/Shelby, the Mopars may be less numerous but even a few years ago it seemed that every other car was a 'Cuda ragtop clone.

You certainly don't see the sale of rare Mopar B-Body convertibles on par auction wise with the rare GM A-Body verts.

That may be due in part to their rarity. They never come up for sale so there are no examples to compare. 3 1970 hemi Roadrunner ragtops made, 24 440 6 barrels 0 1970 hemi GTX ragtops, 0 440 six barrels 2 1970 hemi Coronet R/T ragtops made, and 16 440 6 packs |

Steve, I think you got the HEMI RR ragtops right but not sure if that includes Canadians or known exports. But they made 36 V-code ragtops stateside.
The HEMI R/T they made at least 3 (1 US, 1 Canadian, and 1 known export), and the 16 Six Packs are US-spec cars. |

Yes it was a Numbers Matching 4spd and one of the better 68's Ive ever seen, not perfect but very nice. Id say a car of that caliber in the real open market would bring honest $100k to $125k. IMO
Color, Numbers Matching, Stick, Quailty = $$$ Ive seen non numbers, bad color, autos that look decent for $50k but your getting what you pay for.
