Default Re: ZINC IN OIL & ZINC ADDITIVES

Just a note on ZDDP... It can/will wipe out a catalytic converter. This is why it's gone in todays oils [and the use of roller lifters in most modern vehicles] Rotella was listed for use in diesels [no catalytic] . I guess people were using in in gas powered stuff and wiping the cats out so they lowered the use of zinc in it...

One of the Valvoline VR Oils are for 'off road use' only...Figuring it would be used in cars without cats...higher concentration of zinc in that. I get mine from advance auto parts...'for off road use'

I've started using Amsoil Z Rod 10w30 in my LS6 & Z28. Zddp content is adequate for the solid lifters.

Rotella-T is still good enough if you want to go that route.

Looks like I will stay with Rotella and save some cash, but I will keep a tab on it's decreasing Zinc content. Thanks

Todays Rotella is low on zing because of the diesels running cats now.If you can still find some old API service CI-4 plus Rotella you'll be in good shape.I myself still have about one gal.left of this type of Rotella.I also been adding ZDDPlus additive in my 10W40 oil for a few years now.For my L34 Nova i've been using VR1 20W50 oil,but i think i'll start using VR1 in all three of my cars soon.
