Default Rear End, Axles and Brakes

Two steps forward Three back. Once i had the diff in and started doing the brakes i started to notice alot of slop in the clutch packs to the diff carrier. That meant tearing it back out and rebuilding with a set of new clutches and discs. Checked the pinion backlash and shimmed for each side and then reinstalled. First picture is the new carbon clutches. I had never done this before. Pretty straightforward

Rest of the pictures are the brakes, rear end and axles all in. One thing I caught during restoration. The 12 bolt cover bolts were different on the 2 clips and upper larger clip for the brake lines. I can only assume on the line they took out what came from the axle assembly guys, tossed them out and grabbed new ones as the bolt head markings are different. Hope you guys can see that in the picture.

Default Wiper Motor

This was just a simple clean up, replate parts and rebuild. I do wanna throw out there since the 300deluxe had this cheaper wiper motor anyone in the know, let me know if the wiper arm off the motor doesnt look right. I had to do some junkyarding to get the correct one plus the arm assembly that goes in the cowl.

I’m curious, did the new clutches eliminate the clearance issue you were having? I’ve been able to reuse GM clutch packs reliably unless they have obvious overheating damage.

Both the tabs of the clutches as well as the clips that hold them in the diff carrier were badly worn. Between the tabs and the clips as much as .050inch. I was getting several degrees of free play at the drive shaft before the wheels even started to move. I bought it used and it was very clearly abused and worn out. Im just glad the diff was ok as I didnt wanna spend more money.

Just a heads up with those new clutches. I would always worn my customers when I installed a new Eaton Posi with those clutches to be careful when doing a burnout. If they were going to be drag racing I would warn them to skip the water burnout and to never do a burnout while holding the brake. If those clutches slip they will over heat and glaze. Then they don't work anymore. Back then Eaton was still making the original 18 disc steel clutches and I replaced several sets of the new clutches with the old ones for drag racers or people who liked making tire smoke. It's been several years since I bought new clutches so I don't know if Eaton still makes the original ones or not.

Beautiful job on the wiper motor. Just took a couple pics of mine, which is original to the car. Appears my non depressed park motor uses a lesser offset arm. Can't get a pic of the stamping if any is there, but the distance between pivots, center to center is roughly 2 inches.

Appreciate that. I have the correct one, which was the one I got with the car. I have a new question, the plates that sandwhich the wiper arm ball are yours original? Was your car Baltimore built? Mine were copper coated.
