#1 I have an original print at home I can look at later #2 this was used in the 1968 South Gate high year book. That’s the original one I have at home. Photo was taken likely late November early December of 1967 given the advertising for tickets for an event in the window. #3 it is believed the car is Omaha orange. When you use a color changing app for vintage photos the car becomes orange My dad and I own a 1968 Dana z28 that was in Dana’s hands at the time this photo was taken. It is a factory special order paint car in Omaha orange with full factory paper work. It is optioned just like the car in the photo. No spoiler, upper door trim, non rs, ect…the car also has factory paint under the respray… when sanding the respray, traces of black paint were found between the two paint jobs. Nothing is exact and concrete, but we believe our car could possibly be the one in the photo. |

It is called “PhotoApp”.
Attached is the edited photo from the app where it changes it to orange. |

I'm pretty sure Dale's earlier '68 Z, also orange, is the car in the ad.

I agree with you Jon that it certainly could be. The only thing that could make me think otherwise is the black paint remanence found on our car. His car was unfortunately stripped in the 80s and then got a re spray. I hope to get our car out soon to do a little more digging. I know dales car is a bit earlier and very well could be. I’ve had to put the project on the back burner for a bit.

Here are a few up close pictures of the original photo in question. It is definitely a 68 z28 standard front end with no spoiler equipment. The front fender reads “z28” by the womans leg. The door reads “hi-performance center”. The rear quarter panel reads “South Gate calif.”
I need to correct my self with the earlier darting of the photo I mentioned. I believe this photo was taken December or January given the ad above the roof line for a motor trend event on Jan 21. Our car was ordered November 16 1967. Production date of December 20 1967. Purchased February 2 1968. These dates line up with when this photo might have been taken. The car that Jon has referred to was originally placed into service October 27, 1967. On the POP still retained with the car, the dealer demo box was filled in for date of first retail sale which was 1/31/67. It is my understanding that this would be filled in if the car was used by Dana to demo a new model year vehicle for some time to get orders placed and then would later be sold. This is why i believe Jon believes the other car is the car in the photo (Jon please correct if I’m wrong). I have no reason to discredit Jon’s belief other then it’s still not a rock solid proof as to what Dana did with the car with each car. Our car was ordered by a Gil Sanchez but then sold to a James long and was retained by Dana for about a month or so. Both cars are optioned pretty identical on the outside as far as the trim packages and non rs as well as lack of spoiler equipment. I believe the other possible Dana z in Omaha orange mentioned above has deluxe interior which you can not tell from the photo of the car has or not. Our car is a standard interior with console gauge pack and deluxe steering wheel. I believe at this point, there are 4 documented 68 Dana z28s known. I am by no means insisting our car is in the one in the above photo but I do believe at this point there is no concrete evidence to say the one car over the other. If anyone has any other input or evidence either way I am all ears!! Hope some of this info helps. -mark *pictures are from an original 1968 South Gate high school year book in my personal possession which was found in my early research of this car and photograph* |

Thanks for the nice close-ups Mark. I emailed Dale about this thread and maybe he will chime in and offer some insights on his car.

I miss him a bunch. He was a local Calgarian who loved drag racing and was delighted to share his knowledge. Mad skills and a helluva wrench. One of the good guys and then some. |

I was talking about Dale Bertram, the owner of the other orange '68 Dana Z, not Dale Armstrong. Sorry for the confusion.
