I had a ride in a trifecta of W-Machines yesterday. Stefano you were right about the W-31,now I understand the Rocket reference:-)

We didn't have time to sample the 455 W-30..........maybe better to leave that a mystery.

That hood is one of the best to come out of General Motors.

Next to 70-73 Formula hoods, these are my fav' factory scooped hoods also I prefer the '70 only style w/ flat bottom leading edge.
Not correct for '69 but the '70 only hood fits the '69 cars by swapping the middle 'headbanger' piece and look great also most don't know the difference anyway.

Man... I laughed when I read that. I've been helping my friend work on his '70 Cutlass Supreme and I've lost count of the number of times I've smacked my head off of that %#$@ thing!!

I don't believe the two Silver W-30 hardtops discussed are the same cars?

I believe you are correct Stefano. My friend Dean’s car had buckets with a four-speed and no console. I recently noticed the car for sale on E-bay is a bench seat car upon looking at the photos closer. I believe Dean’s 1970 platinum & black Oldsmobile 442 W-30 4-spd coupe was more fully documented as well. He sold it through "The Volo Auto Museum" years ago in the mid 1990s. I believe he sold it to buy his 1972 green & white W-30 convertible auto. Not sure where the 1970 W-30 wound up though. My friend Mike Noun saw it when it was for sale at "The Volo Auto Museum". He said it was an absolutely beautiful car but said it had bucket seats & spoiler. Both cool cars nonetheless. The Silver W-30 at RK, only has a broadcast card, which does not verify the status of it being a true 4 speed. Ironically the trans in that car is NOT numbers matching. Anyone interested in that car would be well advised to hire an expert.

I believe that I have found Dean's former W-30. Here is the line sheet from that car. The line sheet does verify the 4 speed status, W-30 status as well as other options.

I'm kinda a fan of the bumper-induction system, but it's hard to fault the styling of the '70 hood, especially since Oldsmobile offered several contrasting colors for the stripes. Chevrolet didn't offer many stripes in comparison, with only two or three colors for most years.
