yes, stamped small inside hanger.

The pipes are not stamped.
NC8 Tailpipes were natural steel w/ aluminized coating.
Later production standard exhaust and even later ones with resonators.... Z's had Chrome Tip tail pipes, some made by Walker and were actually 2 PC welded beyond first bend around the spring . .approximately 2/3 of the pipe was &quot;flash chromed&quot;. single dip just like air cleaner lids , oil caps, wing nuts etc.

LLoyd, Not much here but I do have the original rear muffler hanger bracket to frame rail bolts. Hard to find rust free originals. Rich.

I have reason to believe the system changed slightly after January, the change noted in the assembly manual has to do with the 2 chambered pipes which run parallel to and aft of the rear axle. The original schematic (illustrated under L34-35 section in AIM) shows each chambered section with 2 tabs welded on them and then the tabs bolted together.

The NC8 section in the AIM shows the elimination of the nut, bolt, and lock washer.

It would allow the two sides to move independently of one another, which IMHO is not at all detrimental.

Has this change been noted on any actual production vehicles?

Not to take over this thread, but what is the latest date a Z/28 could have Chambered Exhaust?

I think there's a technical bulletin that references May 19th as when it was no longer in production for the Camaro. I believe there is a documented July built L78 Chevelle with chambered exhaust listed.

If your Camaro is an L78, L34 or Z28 the chambered exhaust came standard up until the end of November. After November it was optional until May 19th when it was deleted from production. The chambered system utilized the same mounting locations as the transverse system so if it was built after November you'd need factory documentation or dealer invoice.

The recall letter sent out for a California built and sold Z28 states 1969 Camaros with engine options L34, L78, and Z28's built before December 4, 1968 received chambered exhaust and 1969 Camaros equipped with engine option Z28 built from December 4th 1968 through May 2nd 1969 incorporated a regular muffler dual exhaust without resonators.

There really are not fail safe ways however if the car hasn't been restored and if any part of the original intermediate hangers (over the axle) are still on the car the Chambered Hangers are entirely different than the standard exhaust (whether std duals are equipped with or with out resonators.) The chambered hangers are attached with one bolt instead of two and they have a 1&quot; x 2&quot; metal retainer with a tab which goes between the bolt and the rubber strap (the rubber strap is much shorter and narrower)


Here is an original retainer, this one was installed upside down from the factory as evidenced by the Hex shape of non-rusted metal around the bolt hole.
