Lots of deals on decent stock HP 69/70 Olds 455's around Dan but tough when a stick as Olds engines seldom have cranks drilled for pilot bushings.
Here's a shot I can share of your cars W31 Post cousin up here up here in Canada, tach added when new and is a Dixco.
I've been checking in regularly w/ the original owner for years, he and his wife aren't quite ready to let it go yet but told me I get 1'st crack when they are...pic from when it changed storage locations a couple years back.

Hi all, thanks for the interest in El Malo.

Plans.... My Red 69 F-85 has the perfect motor to drop in El Malo. A well built 403 SBO. Goal is to make a family race vehicle to take to Byron and Great Lakes Dragaway. My wife of 39 years is a gear head, her first car was a then 1 year old '67 Mr. Norm's Dart GTS 383 Torqueflite.

So my 22 year old son (we're partners in the car) and I will leave the car exactly as is until the November MCACN show in Rosemont. It will be in the Barn Finds/Hidden Gems section. Shortly thereafter we hope to find a place where we can work on the car over the Winter. Red car gets back its original vin stamped W-31 engine. Race motor goes into El Malo so we'll be looking for a Muncie 4 spd and parts to complete the drive line. Would like a set of "vintage" Cragar SS wheels. Don't have any clue as to the condition or origin of the rear diff. It may be original, but that's doubtful. My son turns the wrenches and I'll be the "cleaning fanatic". Everything stays original to the car but I want to bring it to its best possible appearance with its original paint and all the trim untouched, just thoroughly cleaned and detailed. That means all the hand painted lettering stays. We may have a professional do the driver's rear quarter body repair and just spot in to the existing finish. There's also metal work needed on the floor as is evident in the pics.

We've kept quiet about the car till now - and tomorrow it goes back into storage, preserving it as close to "barn fresh" condition for all the people who come to MCACN to view it. By then I'll have a lot more information about the prior ownership and race history in a presentable format.

Bob,

I am very pleased that the car is in good hands and will be preserved with integrity in mind.

See you at MCACN's.....if you need anything feel free to call me.

Dan

Kurt, I just noticed you're in Janesville. The 403 in the red car was all re-done by CP Motorsports, Peter Graves who is in Janesville. Maybe you know him.

Peter fixed the abortion of a job that a certain well known CA Oldsmobile engine builder passed off as a crate motor.

I had captured some old photos of "El Malo" off the web many years ago. It was sitting in a driveway, appears to have the engine pulled. Does anyone have large pics of it from back in the day?

I've got people working on finding pics from its racing days if any exist. I'm told it may have been in Car Craft issue covering Springnationals in 1969, which would be the Sept. 1969 issue. Or maybe coverage at Indy during the first years of racing. One sticker on the car says "Participant 1969 AHRA Springnationals" and the other says "National Hot Rod Association 1971 World series Championship - Eastern Conference". I still have to contact the former owners who raced the car.
