Funny story: I received the quote to media blast and powder coat my frame, suspension pieces and one set of rims, one set of rims just blast and prime.

Although I am confident the facility would have done a great job the cost was not within my budget.

Again looking for a media blaster/powder coater semi close to me:-)

Why does everything have to be powder coated?

Have the frame blasted and blast all the small stuff yourself. Then paint everything.

I am focusing on long term reliability, I plan to hand the car down from one generation to the next. I don't want my grandkids to have to take the car apart and re-restore it, unless they want to of course.

Power coat is better than paint.

Nothing lasts forever.

So far powder coat is beyond your budget correct? A arms, rear end housings, and suspension pieces dont need to be powder coated. You can source really nice pit free pieces from out west and paint them to look like brand new for less than powder coating your original pieces. Nothing on my frame is powder coated except for the core support. Everything was blasted, filled, epoxy'ed and painted.

Powder coat your frame if its a must, but the other stuff doesnt need it.

The Dude,

You did your project the way you wanted......let's allow Ryan to do it his way
If Ryan decides to Powder Coat his Gear Shift Lever.....it's his Lever.

"My Lever"

PS: got another two leads on Media blast/Powder Coat companies, one from a site member and we had a great chat always the best part of car stuff!!

I found one piece of the sway bar end link still attached that I need to cut off, also need to get the seals out of the rear.... I tried my slide hammer but it was too petite :-( I have seen something that screws into the seal and attaches to a bigger slide hammer?

So apparently we cant offer any tips other than "nice job" and "looks good". Scuncio said what I said weeks ago about powder and pitting.

Powder coating his frame is the wrong idea and will not turn out like he wants it to. He has his springs in the blast powder pile. No idea if he plans on coating them but that is a bad idea too. New springs are relatively cheap. Eaton says this about powdercoating them...

In order to get the paint particles hot enough to bond they must be heated very close to the annealing temperature of the spring steel. Annealing means the heat treatment of the springs is being removed. Annealed springs will no longer support any weight.

Im sorry Im not saying thatta boy with everything I see. Im trying to save him some headaches and money wasted on stuff he doesnt need to do.

Obviously it's Ryan's choice, but I would agree that powder coating can leave much to be desired over a good quality gun-sprayed paint. I would say painting is even more advantageous on a Midwest car with rust pitting on the undercarriage...because it can be filled and sanded smooth.

Good luck to Ryan either way.
