One of the many sections of a Camaro website that I have been working on putting together for a while is a drag race section. This weekend I started to clean up some of the pics that will be used. Some are not final shots and are literally pictures pf pictures at this point as I am waiting for true scans so quality is not always great but figured some of you may like them. Also if anyone would like to contribute any pictures for use on the site of any year Camaro please feel free to contact me.
1. 1967 Camaro L78 convertible, true day two pic as it is literally the day after it was bought. The paper in the rear quarter window is actually the window sticker. This car would go on to become the BatCar setting numerous NHRA and AHRA records and winning numerous championships under both race drivers in its career. ![]() 2. Early front launch shot of the BatCar. ![]() 3. Rear shot of a launch of the BatCar ![]() 4. Color shot of the first BatCar paint scheme taken at Englishtown NJ in early 1968 ![]() 5. Picture of the BatCar after receiving the Rod Shop paint scheme, yes the Rod shop of Hemi fame, this is one of the beasts that put them on the map. ![]() 6. BatCar after it left the Rod Shop and went to it's next owner ![]() 7. Another shot after the Rod Shop. The other 67 that you can see in the top left corner is an L78 Pace car that was raced out of Canada. ![]() 8. Everyone loves anything that says Grumpy's Toy ![]() 9. Dick Harrel, what more needs to be said. ![]() 10. A car that I know nothing about, reportedly taken at Englishtown, NJ. ![]() 11. Mr. C's 67 L78 also reportedly taken at Englishtown but am not sure of this for a fact. ![]() 12. An unknown 67 SS 350 car, track unknown to me. ![]() 13. A 68 coupe and 67 ragtop head to head. Again unknown track and am not sure of the names on the cars. ![]() 14. Little Giant 1968 Z-28 awaiting a new motor. ![]() I will try and post a few more later on if people are interested or they can see everything once they go up on the site but that may be months off yet. So far the only part that has much in it is the vintage advertising section. |

8. Everyone loves anything that says Grumpy's Toy ![]() The Kimball Bros. out of KC got this car from Grumpy, and were *very* successful with it... ------------------------------------------------------ 9. Dick Harrel, what more needs to be said. ![]() That's Jim Kirby out of StL, not Dick Harrell... ------------------------------------------------------ 10. A car that I know nothing about, reportedly taken at Englishtown, NJ. ![]() That is the "Mimi" Camaro...iirc, it's been talked about on this site. ------------------------------------------------------ 13. A 68 coupe and 67 ragtop head to head. Again unknown track and am not sure of the names on the cars. ![]() Looks like the "Old Reliable" Z and the Midwest Auto Parts Camaro... |

Thank you Chevy454, any corrections or further information is appreciated. I would prefer to have more than just the pics on the site and include some info with them. For the names I am going by what is on the cars at the moment and will be the first to admit that there are many more knowledgeable about the actual history of the particular cars than myself.
Yes the BatCar is alive and well rolling around with a mere 1495 miles on it. The owner even made it out to the Nationals in Carlisle this year but for all the coaxing I could not get him to bring the car out with him and show it. I have become pretty good friends with the owner and was able to go out and photograph the car very extensively and interview him for the site getting many great stories of the car and racing in the day from him. Truly a great guy. |
