The stock handle that comes with the C/plus for a bench seat Nova is a little short in my opinion...there are some other handles that work better...SULLY has one in his 70 L78 car...ideally you want something that has the curve and offset of the original Muncie handle but in a Hurst product...I have even cut off old MUncie handles and welded a Hurst end on them and they work great...best of both worlds...looks factory but has the Hurst body

i think that what you described here is the best of both worlds...

original appearance with new guts, hurst back-up light switch could be utilized as well to maintain the cars b-up light system. another plus is the easy availability of the older muncie handles without linkage on e-bay. jmo

Since the 69 and up Novas have the reverse lock out feature on the column the switch shouldn't be a problem....I have the factory lock out rod connected to the Hurst linkage on our 70 L78 car...seems to work fine.

those lock out rods seem to be one of the items that dissapear very quickly after day one.... maintaining that set up is probably one indication of a well thought out and restored muscle car.... maybe the details are what make the final product.

I will try to get the Hurst p/n for the handle I have in my 70 L78 Bench seat Nova (see members rides,I think it shows a pic or 2 of the shifter) FYI, if you are running headers, the reverse lockout/reverse lights linkage will not work/fit. SULLY

Sully, type of headers may be a factor...I had some old school versions on my 70 black car and they worked ok with the Hurst linkage....they weren't big tubes though. I'll post some photos of the set up when I can...car is in the palm trees at the moment our red 70 has a similar setup..more to follow.

Tom,
Would the Hurst shifter for a Tri-five Chevy work in a bench seat Nova?

Here is where you can see all of the sticks available from Hurst: http://www.hurst-shifters.com/shifter-sticks.asp

By my calculations, stick numbers 238 0090 and 538 8022 look like they may fit well for a bench seat. I also need to replace my shifter assembly so I may use one of them.
