I had this exact situation happen to me many years ago. The advice regarding the lawyer and police contact is definitely the answer. For me, contacting the landlord with a "firm psychotic threat" was the key...got the car out from behind bars! Whatever your course of action, do this IMMEDIATELY ! ! !
