Well, last night I had a phone call from the "winning" bidder. It was very unplesant and sometimes heated and went on for almost an hour. He had all kinds of his own reasons why I should honor the end of the auction in his favor. He told me that he had received an email from one of the other bidders stating that I had emailed him and said I'd sell the wheels for a very low number. This was not true at all. He also said (a few times) that he believed I was "up to something else", but he couldn't figure out what it was. That was when MY dander stood up at attention! My single main and simple point was that the auction had been molested by an outside party with very little time to go, so it would only be fair to everyone to declare it void. He finally agreed to let ebay settle it.
I tried the phone numbers but only got left on hold and finally told to try the live chat. It turned out to work fine. I got to "converse" with a woman who reviewed the entire auction and sequence of events. She said the auction was definitely void due to 3rd party interference. She also agreed to contact the "buyer" and inform him, as well as ALL of the bidders to explain what happened! That was a relief. I won't be charged for the listing. Minutes later the auction went away from my list and I was able to re-list. I was finally able to untie the knots in my stomach.
This morning I received an email from him saying that he's not always right and in this case he must have been wrong. Then he said if I relist, he'd still like to bid and hoped there were no hard feelings.......

sorry for the long post, but I just wanted you guys to know how it turned out. It's nice to have friends and helpers here..

A good ending to a bad situation Verne. Let's hope this doesn't happen again!!

Good luck this time...

Happy things worked out for you Verne! .

Isn't the thing that saved your butt that the hacker didn't change your password when he had the chance? .

Happy eBaying!? .
