One of the highlights of the show was the presence of Jim Hayter. On October 8, 1971 at the AHRA World Points Finals in Fremont, CA, Jim set a new record running a 9.63 @ 143 MPH to win the Pro Stock World Championship. He was driving the Fred Gibb sponsered 1969 ZL-1 Camaro, #1, now owned by Bill Porterfield. Accordning to Bill, the car may be retired from racing, as he just recently put the original engine block back in the car. Glad I got to see Bill hammer it a couple of times.
