This B-25, registered N86427, used to buzz the east bay (San Francisco) hills where I grew up back in the late 60s and early 70s. Man, there was no mistaking the sound of those two Wright R-2600s and often this airplane would roar right over the house. The owner, Ralph Johnson, was involved with several old airplanes out at Oakland back in those days and this photo was taken at an impromptu display at Oakland in 1967. That's me in the shorts under the nose. This B-25 is now in Spain in an air museum.

A buddy e-mailed this photo to me from 2005. It's a Lockheed P2H Neptune (former Navy sub hunter) now used as a fire bomber. Note the shadow of the airplane on the fence! That's pretty low! Hot day and a heavy load means she'll use up all the runway she can before getting airborne!

I love the contrast seen in this picture. A circa-1910 Curtiss pusher chugs past a supersonic B-1 bomber. (The pusher is flying along about 100 yards beyond the B-1.) And to think we made that technoligical leap in just about 65 years.

Hey cool....love the Bombers too! . I think that B17 pic is "Fuddy Duddy" operational out of Calif? . My favourite is the Lancasters....Canadian eh! . They just spent something like 10 million on a Halifax bomber resto here in Canada and it's not even operational....one motor only fires up as part of the static display. . And we think these cars are a big project to restore! .
