[ QUOTE ] stuff your hand/arm in their mouth [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] a Tradition still Carried on to this Day. I wonder who thought of it in the first place and how long it has been happening. almost sounds like a Biblical story!!

Several of the folks around here *partake* in a little noodlin' now and then...the pictures are one thing, but to see how those fish chew up their arms is something else!

I saw a Program where they demonstrated "Noodlin".
Two men sank a hollowed out stump in a narrow area of lake 4 feet deep. They came back later to see if a Giant catfish had claimed the stump it's home. One man stood up in the water and crouched down to insert his entire hand and arm into the stump, and see if anything grabs onto it..You watch the mans face as half his arm gets taken into the Catfish's mouth. He calls out "He took it!"..and the struggle of endurance begins. The man in the boat offers assisitance if he needs it,but otherwise it is one man, standing in 4 feet of water, trying to land that catfish into the boat under his own strength and stamina. It can go on for a very long agonizing period,as you have to pull him out of the stump with your arm in his mouth, the put your other arm around it and lift it out of the water and onto the boat. As Ken mentioned, sometimes you better pray you are stronger then the Catfish,or he'll take you under. |
