He backed it up with an 11.02 at 127. It's all in the combination and what he does inside those stock castings.
Polyglas tires hook well, you just have to have the car set up for it and drive it out of the hole. Tougher on a stick shift.

Norm, like you, I thought it was improbable to turn those kinds of ET's on polyglas repro tires until I saw it for myself. Average 60' times for the front runners are usually low 1.80's. Gessler, if my memory serves correct, occasionally dips to high 1.70's. I've ran a hemi challenger with these guys for two years now. When I started, a 2.15 was a good 60' for me, at the last race of the season this year, I was hitting low 1.90's with a 4spd car that out-weighed Dudek's hemi challenger by 300lbs. or so. It's done with skill, spring rate set-ups and a little weight distribution, and it's a load of fun too.

From the Year One site...
Gessler: 11.02's [two of them] @ 127.04 mph! Dudek: 11.03....ready for this? 132.22 mph!! Cannon: 11.57 @ 122.96 mph Wendling 11.76 @ 118.75 mph Cannon's run was the fastest for a *small block* in his Mopar, and Wendling's car is a Firebird...and our course Dudek's Hemi Chally and Gessler's Buick! WOW... ![]() |

Rob does Dudek have a roll bar or any other forms of safety equiptment in his car? Going that fast has to scare the $hit out of the driver!

Do most of these guys have timing management systems to cut down on wheel spin? m

Yes & no, respectively.
NHRA recently dropped it's bar limit to 11.50 (like IHRA) for *stock* cars, so the F.A.S.T. cars have been sneakin' by because of that...but, since some of the guys are beatin' the 11.50 mark pretty handily, they've had to install bars. The ones I've seen are VERY discreet, and you've gotta take a hard look to see 'em. As for "timing management", that's a big, BIG *no no*... |
