If something is going for 95 bucks and you think you can get it for 101, you'll lose. If you put a bid in for 140 however, you'll have a better chance of winning and el cheapo guy will have to try and re-bid in time. Basically, bid the top dollar you're willing to pay for the item and if you don't get it, you won't feel bad about it. You only feel bad because you were probably willing to pay more than what the winning bid was for the item.
