Jeff,
You'll know which way it goes front to back by the position of the vacuum diafram or mounting plate. No tags on these it is stamped into the body and usually very visable , when not messed with. You need to stay away from those Fords. |

The aluminum distributors did not have a tag. The early GM distributors were made out of a iron casting. I think they started making the aluminum about 1965. I know my 1963 had the style with the tag.
