Welcome Ripvanwinckle,
I belive that both the 409 and L78 "mystery motor" were available in the Impala for 1965. I am certain Billy will bring His 1965 L78 Impala to the last Rolling Meadows Cruise this Friday. |

The Z-16 engine was the same as the L-78 except it used a hyd cam and was still rated at 375hp.

Hey FEST, thanks for the heads up. I won't be going but my friend Duane (1965 Impala SS L78)will give me an up date.
Not a super car but a lot of fun. Yes, in 1965 Chevy did rate the L78 at 425hp. The engine is the same as the 65 Vette. The reason for the HP drop in 66 was due to the change in exhaust manifolds. 65 used a header style manifold, where in 66 the L78 used a log style manifold. It's to bad the fat body cars are not considered super cars, other wise I would be at that reunion. |
