keith,my car is also a baltimore car,one of the previous owners, not knowing it was a copo, because of the L78 code, and missing engine, since recovered, remembers giving the build sheet to the next owner,so this particular car seems to hve had a sheet, hopefully there's another in the car yet... thanks for the help guys,i've got a boatload of questions yet,but am learning tons from this site..

Ok, here's what I get off my sheets that I have available.
ZJ7: special wheel hub cap & trim ring
ZK8: tire pressure sticker
ZP1: COPO Tires
ZQ7: Canadian warranty booklet
Z23: Interior decore package
ZK3: deluxe seat belts & front shoulder harness
ZN1: 4:10 ratio, COPO package (heavy duty guts?)

OK now don't laugh anyone but here is my theory on the nexy four numbers
ZW1: M22 driveshaft
ZV7: M21 driveshaft
ZV9:turbo 400 driveshaft
ZV6: M20 Driveshaft
I have only seen ZV6 once and it was on a M20 COPO Chevelle. It should be the same shaft as the M21 but... Anyone want to tear that theory to shreds?????
Note: most these number came off Camaro sheets but some off Chevelle!
Go easy on me
Peter

Pete, Your info and mine is pretty close except why do you have "driveshaft" ? Is that on the Canada documentation or is that on your build sheet?

Joe, it's a complete shot in the dark. Those numbers always pretty much come up with the tranny combo. Everything else gets listed on the build sheets to tell the line which part to put on, what tells them about driveshaft. Box 19 on the build sheet lists the drive shaft code I believe. BY on the M21 cars and BA on the M40 cars. The GM of Canada code has something to do with tranny's or related parts. Comes from the GM microfilm that tells what parts came on the car. Like I said, just a shot in the dark, if nothing else it makes for good entertainment for the night.

COPO PETE
I found the same thing on my Canadian Records.
These are twin COPO Chevelles built on Baltmore line, then Shipped to Canada for sale new.
One built with an M-22,the other an M-40.

The M-40 I have the Buildsheet, and it states BA in box 19.The Chevelle M-40 COPO:
ZK8-Tire PSI
ZN1-4:10 special axle
ZP1-RWL F70X14 tires
ZP3-Special Paint
ZQ7-Canadian Warranty Booklet and Literature.
ZV9-M-40 Driveshaft

The Chevelle M-22 COPO.No buildsheet,as per George Zepora:
ZK8
ZN1
ZP1
ZP3
ZP8
ZQ7
ZW1-M-22 driveshaft

Did you recieve my Fax number?
Rick

Rick, I faxed the facts Saturday late afternoon.
Your ZP3 special paint is interesting. All special order paint cars I have seen are 1001HA option for special paint.
Keep in mind, the driveshaft thing is just a theory I thought I would throw out there to see what kind of reaction I got. I think some are still laughing so hard they can't type back!! I'm thinking your sheet does not actually have the word driveshaft on it. I'm likely way out in left field, but the only dumb question is the one not asked.

The information that I have on COPO cars holds true for the relationship of drive shaft codes to transmissions as well. Where I have complete information, ZN1 shows up every time. (KQ rearend probably).
Regarding ZP1 COPO tires, not all cars show this code. Ours doesn't and came new with PL5 F70 X 14 Uniroyal white lettered tires. Others with PL5 do show ZN1. A friend's COPO came with Firestone raised white letter tires. Our L78 car came with PW7 F70 X 14 white stripe tires. Question is, what is an L78 tire? Was there anything special? They seem to be the only difference between a 9562EA and 9566AA COPO Chevelle.
Some build sheets show the Zxx codes and some don't. I'm wondering if the shipping lists perhaps did the same thing, leaving things out from time to time.
More parts to the puzzle or more questions?
