Default 67 L78 Smog system

Hello all,

I’m looking for some help on a smog system for a 67 L78 car I’m working on.

Currently I’m installing the original engine and I’m having trouble trying to figure out the correct smog system layout. After searching online, I can’t seem to find any pics of one installed (at least on a 67) I can find 68/69 but not 67?

Thankfully the original owner saved all the parts he removed back in the early 70’s and I believe we have all the pieces.

After looking on the CRG site, assembly manual page 265, not a very clear diagram on how it’s mounted? I need to know how the adjustment bracket (belt tension bracket) is bolted up. I think it bolts to the water pump stud but something seems off, I installed it the same way the diagram shows but it don’t look right.

Anyone on here have any detailed pics of the pump mounted and also how the hoses are routed?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks, Kurt

Dave, thanks for the help, but that don’t really show what I was hoping.

Much appreciated though!

Not an L78 but if you haven’t seen them already, there’s some great Smog equipped ‘67 L35 pics further on in this 01/15 thread, also don’t miss Bruce’s Camaros.net link in Post 5 which has some great ‘67 L78 info, click here…

Best of luck w/ your quest!

Pix from a '67 Chevelle L34. Note that the L34/L78 systems are quite different from the L35. Hopefully you have the pass side valve cover with the bracket.

Hopefully these are useful to you!

Guys, I can’t thank you enough for your help.

So here is my dilemma, I’m looking at the CRG site under 67 Camaro pulley configurations and according to that I have the correct pulleys for L78 w/smog.

3863108 Crank pulley
3906656 Water pump pulley
3880800 Smog pulley

The crank and water pump pulleys are 2 groove, with the smog pump mounted it appears it needs 3 groove pulleys on the crank and water pump in order to work? What as I missing here?

Also, when I bolt up the bracket that would tighten the belt, assembly manual shows it mounts from water pump stud to the pump, well when it’s mounted like that the Alt belt hits the bracket? The bracket I have (67 only I believe) looks to be correct according to the manual.

I’ve dug around quite a bit looking for info and pics for this setup and there is not much that I can find. 68 /69 much more info out there….hmmph….
