What is the correct finish for the inside of the drum brake backing plate (meaning where the brake shoes mount, that backing plate surface ?

Eddie,

On the 3rd Gen Novas the rears were bare steel on the inside. Then the axle assembly was sprayed with black rust preventative. This covered the outside only.

The fronts were bare inside and out. Hence why the rusted faster than the shields on the disc brake cars.
