1967 327 oil filter adapter
Trying to help a buddy out. Can a 'conventional' oil filter adapter old #3952301- new #19299222 be used in place of the original bypass-adapter? He says it's leaking around his but was put together with silicone. Maybe try a gasket? The newer style seems an easier solution if it will work. Thanks

K157 AC or 24061 Wix is what is needed on 67 and earlier blocks. Using the adapter numbers listed above on a 67 block is asking for grief.... lots of grief.

The K157 uses the same square cut O-ring as a PF141 filter uses. If your friend isn't using that gasket.... shake my head.

OK, so a no-go on the later adapter. Is there a paper gasket between the block and the bypass? I show a GM gasket #5573980. When I google it some show a flat paper gasket and some show a square oil filter type gasket. He just bought the car and is trying to sort a few things out and I'm not familiar with the older blocks. The numbers you listed are to eliminate the original bypass adapter? Sorry for the dumb questions.

The K157 AC had you put the bypass valve under the new casting. Never had the Wix one, but the pictures of it look nearly the same. I never knew they had a paper gasket under the bypass valve when I worked in gas station changing oil. Mostly we never removed the bypass piece. We had a K-D tool made especially for digging the old square cut o-ring out. There were a few times when the previous filter change guy didn't remove the old gasket and we had to remove two (or more) of them.

Upon further review, it looks like it already has a spin on filter adapter. Maybe that's why it's leaking. He said it looks like it should take a square type O-ring the previous owner used sealer or silicone. I'll see if we can find just the seal. Thanks for the info Sir.
