Known as “Frosty”, this beautiful 1967 Ford Mustang Sports Sprint Convertible is a wonderful example of an American classic vehicle with a great story. This Pony Car is one of only 8,527 Sports Sprints produced making it very collectable piece among Mustang enthusiasts. It was the product of a complete restoration to Mustang Club of America (MCA) Concours Driven Standards. The restoration project was led by a MCA Gold Card judge who specializes in 67-68 Mustangs. Photos and miscellaneous receipts of the restoration are included. The car sports its rare and original color combination of a Frost Turquoise exterior and Aqua interior. It’s powered by its original 200 -1V engine that runs excellent. The original 3-speed manual transmission was upgraded to a C4 automatic transmission. This car is fully documented with a Marti Auto Works “Standard Report” and “Deluxe Report” which is both included. This car has achieved multiple awards including the prestigious MCA National Gold Award Winner which are all included. This car was also featured in MCA Mustang Times magazine which is also included. This special car truly deserves a special home.

As the VIN number, door tag, Marti Auto Works “Standard Report” and “Deluxe Report” indicate this car was built at Dearborn on June 20th, 1967 as a 1967 Ford Mustang Convertible for the Omaha Ordering District. It had a Frost Turquoise exterior and Aqua standard bucket seats interior. It also had a 200-1V engine, three-speed manual transmission and 3.20 standard axle ratio. It was ordered with the following options: white manual top, Sports Sprint, 6.95x14 ply rated tires, white rayon sidewall tires, rocker panel molding and wheel covers. It was one of only 8,527 with the Sports Sprint package, one of only 3,834 with this engine and transmission, one of only 1,610 with this paint code, one of only 827 with this paint code and trim code and one of only 341 from this DSO. It was a special customer order by HP Smith Motors located in Omaha, NE. The original owner took delivery on July 7th and drove the car a total of 64,224 miles before parking it in 1980. The car was parked in an open shed where it sat for the next 30 years.

Marty Rupp, a MCA Gold Card Judge, discovered the worn-out Mustang in 2010. Sadly, it was in need of a complete restoration but Marty saw it had possibilities so he purchased it. He trailed it to his shop in Weeping Water, NE. Reluctantly, Marty agreed to sell his recent barn find Mustang to Tom and Lisa McCool who lived in Vista, NE. Not only did Marty agree to sell the car but he agreed to be the project manager for a complete rotisserie restoration. The Mustang’s restoration was done to MCA Concours Driven Standards and took almost two years to complete. Tom and Lisa did not aspire to a full concours restoration, but did keep the Mustang as close to how it was originally built as possible. The photo album of the restoration truly documents the journey of saving this special 1967 Ford Mustang Sports Sprint Convertible known as “Frosty”. Once the restoration was completed Tom and Lisa enjoyed driving it roughly 2,000 miles. They drove the Mustang to car shows as well as in parades. It has achieved multiple awards which are listed below. As quoted from Tom, “Lisa and I were fortunate to assist with the restoration of this true piece of Americana. If cars could talk, I am certain our Mustang would say, “Thank you for rescuing me”!

Sports Sprint Option Information:

The 1967 Mustang Sports Sprint was basically an entry level sport options package which included hood vents, recessed turn signals, white wall tires, full wheel covers, bright metal rocker panel moldings, chrome air cleaner and vinyl covered shift handle if an automatic transmission was ordered. Early in 1967 the Sports Sprint package was only offered on the hardtop body style, but in June 1967 the convertible was included. Often times these Mustangs were ordered in special colors such as Springtime Yellow or Dusk Rose and most could include a deck lid mounted luggage rack at a reduced price. Ford offered a set of promotional ads for this special model, often calling it a limited edition and included it as part of the 3rd birthday celebration of the Mustang.

The exterior of this Mustang is in beautiful condition throughout. The color combination is very attractive and it gets serious attention. During the restoration the sheet metal was addressed where necessary and countless hours were invested on the body. The hood, doors and trunk lid close nicely. The car was repainted in its original factory color of Frost Turquoise which is Ford #1734-A. The paint is higher quality and was recently detailed to a brilliant shine. It was outfitted with a new white convertible top, pads and window by Auto Kraft Upholstery in Lincoln, NE. The front windshield was replaced new and has the Carlite stamp. All of the remaining original stamped glass is in very nice condition. Everything on the exterior has been restored or replaced such as the stainless trim, wipers, antenna, driver’s mirror, grille, headlights, front bumper, door handles, lower molding, tail light bezels, tail light lenses, gas cap, rear bumper and emblems. The Pony gallops on 14” steel wheels with wire wheel covers and Uniroyal Tiger Paw white wall 195-75-14 tires.

The interior of this Mustang is also in beautiful condition throughout. It was refinished in its original interior two tone color of Aqua and Teal which complements the exterior perfectly. The interior is spacious and very comfortable. Everything in the interior was restored or replaced such as the sun visors, rear view mirror, dash pad, dash fascia, gauges, black dash trim, wood steering wheel, door panels, door hardware, bucket seats, rear bench seat, pedals, shifter and carpeting. Some custom features include a Custom Autosound stereo and carpeted floor mats with Mustang logo. The original correct rear view mirror and AM radio are included. The trunk compartment was nicely restored and painted body color. It has a factory correct style trunk mat and spare tire cover. It’s equipped with a full size matching spare and tools.

The engine compartment is highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. The backside of the hood was painted body color. The firewall, shock tower brace, inner fenders and radiator support was painted in the correct shade of satin black. The driver’s inner fender retains the original VIN stamp. The car is powered by its original 200-1V engine that runs excellent. The engine was completely rebuilt by Eagle Motor Works located in Elmwood, NE and repainted in the correct shade of blue. It’s equipped with the correct Autolite 1100 carburetor, chrome air cleaner, oil cap, wires, hoses, alternator, battery topper, etc. The engine is cooled by the correct FoMoco radiator which was completely gone through. The engine breathes through the correct manifold and single exhaust system. The engine is coupled to a C4 automatic transmission that was completely rebuilt by Nebraska Transmission located in Lincoln, NE. It’s equipped with a 3.20 standard axle ratio. During the time frame of the restoration the original three-speed manual transmission was upgraded to a C4 automatic transmission. The original three-speed manual with shifter is located with the previous owner in Nebraska and available if the new owner wants to peruse it.

The undercarriage is also highly detailed throughout with many correct parts. This is definitely nice enough to display with mirrors at a car show. The floors were painted with a textured black finish which is great for durability. Everything was restored or replaced such as the fuel system, steering system, suspension system and braking system.

The Marti Autoworks reports, reproduction owner’s manual, original AM radio, original rear view mirror, reproduction chrome air cleaner, Mustang times magazine, miscellaneous restoration receipts and photos, show board with stand, convertible top boot cover and car show awards are included.
