Y'alls first cars were way cooler than mine. I turned 16 in 1992 and my first truck was my Grandmother's 10 year old GMC 1500 regular cab long bed. It only had 32k miles on it when I got it. I begged my parents to let me buy a 1st or 2nd gen Camaro or Trans Am but they weren't having it. So, I got the hand-me-down truck. It was pretty nice but I never stopped wanting a sports or muscle car.

I kept it for 2 years before buying a 1988 300ZX 2 seater automatic that was loaded with every option except for the turbo. I was still under my parents roof so a Camaro was still out of the question. The 300ZX only had about 30k miles on it and it was a great car. I thought it was the coolest with the digital dash and t-tops. Definitely one of the nicest cars in the high school parking lot.

One day, the summer after graduating high school, I was in a neighboring town(Sherman, Tx) and drove past a used car lot with a red '87 IROC Z that I just had to have. It was a 305 TPI automatic with power everything and t-tops. Swapped the 300ZX even for it and didn't even ask my parents. They were not pleased with me. Of course, it ended up being the biggest turd I've ever owned. lol After finally getting fed up with the constant problems that car had, I ended up swapping that even for another low mileage 300ZX 2 seater. This one was a 87 but it was a 5 speed manual, my first manual! Loved that car too.

No pics of the GMC or IROC but here's the first 300ZX. I thought those terrible wheels looked good back then. Uggh. Anyway, like I said, you guys had way cooler first and second cars than me. Makes me wish I had been born about 10-15 years earlier!

My first car in 1980 was a 70 SS-350 Camaro. Bone stock Camaro Gold w/ vinyl top, auto on column and no gauges. By '83, I had the vinyl top removed, repainted blue with Z-28 stripes, spoiler and snorkel. Changed it to 3-pedal about the same time. Drove it from MD to CO and back twice for college. Somewhere along the way, I replaced the snorkel hood with an L-88 glass hood. Graduated college in '87 and sold it in '88 as I thought it was "the adult thing to do"...urgh...regretted it the moment I took the kid's money. Heard it got wrapped around a tree in the early 90s. Still have the snorkel hood in my shed.
