“ The Old Reliable “ .. .. anyone that knows drag racing does not need an explanation !
This is the actual spoiler from the 1970 Ammon R. Smith “Old Reliable” Camaro racecar. Still with original matching lettering from when car was originally built. Did not take them long to figure out that real spoilers slowed down cars on the quarter mile! Here is a pic of the car with tape on the decklid covering the holes from where they removed the spoiler. I got this about 20 years ago from a fellow who was friend of Ammon Smith and ordered a spoiler for his 69 Camaro, this 70 spoiler arrived when the dealer had none in stock. He could not use it but kept it for many years. There is a notarized letter from him that I recieved with the spoiler explaining the story. Spoiler has some scratches, but otherwise great shape with all studs intact. It is 50 years old ! |
